So I was delighted to see that the new NIV Proclamation Bible (ed. Lee Gatiss; cf. publisher page and second video) includes a one-sentence summary of the message of every book of the Bible. I disagree with many of these one-sentence summaries (which are rather uneven), but it’s still helpful to consider how others articulate the messages.   God’s Word to You: A Summary of the Bible. In the beginning, the all-powerful, personal God created the universe. This God created human beings in His image to live joyfully in His presence, in humble submission to His gracious authority.

Luke, "the beloved physician" was no apostle and probably no Jew either (compare Colossians ; Colossians ; the Jewish-Christian brothers are mentioned especially in verse 11 and we may conclude, therefore, that Luke and Demas, the co-workers mentioned in verse   The book starts with the miraculous birth of Samuel in answer to his mother’s earnest prayer. As a child, Samuel lived and served in the temple. God singled him out as a prophet (), and the child’s first prophecy was one of judgment on the corrupt priests.

He was ordained as a pastor in , but had to leave the pulpit for a time because of ill health. During this enforced time off, he memorized large portions of Scripture. (Eventually, he memorized the gist of every book of the Bible.) The idea of the handbook came almost by accident. One day he was invited to preach at another pastor's church. The Book of Ruth is a beautiful story. It is in the Old Testament part of the Bible. The Book of Ruth is about a young widow, Ruth. Ruth was a foreigner. But she came to Israel to help Naomi. (Naomi was Ruth's husband's mother.) Ruth left her own gods, to serve the real God. Naomi and Ruth were very poor.
